Oldest
state park in California, Big Basin has been around for almost
a century. There are trails to suit varying level of difficulties
including a 12 mile track to the ocean. Actually, the trail heading
to the coast is almost all downhill making it a very do-able trail
for most people.

One advise
if you plan on hiking from the park HQ to
the ocean, leave a car at the end of the trail (at Hwy 1). You
can take couple of buses back which goes through Santa Cruz
but I don't recommend it.
