Didn't quite know what to expect on my trip to Malaysia. Other than the famous KLCC tower, I really didn't know too much about the country nor the culture. My trip started in the city of Kuala Lumpur followed by Penang. You can jump to the Penang trip page..

First order of business; FOOD. I took a train to Chinatown for dinner. I don't know what its called, but basically you sit at a table with bunch of food on the skewers with boiling water at the middle of the table. I had an absolute feast for only $3.00.

Next, the famous KLCC tower.

In order to go to the walkway connecting to two towers, you need to get a ticket early in the morning. Unfortunately, I could never get up early enough to get one. Hey, what do you expect ? I'm on vacation.

Near the KLCC twin tower is the KL Tower which looks a lot like the space needle in Seattle. You can get a pretty good view of Kuala Lumpur from the top.

BTW, in this picture, you can see the Renaissance hotel I stayed at. Its the 2 elliptical building on the bottom left. Not bad for $50 a night.

Some of the other attractions include the National Mosque, Railway Station and Sultan Abdul Samad building.

The Sultan Abdul Samad building is suppose to be the most photographed building in KL. I ran into few photographers myself when I was wondering around at night.

Before leaving KL, I decided to take a city tour organized by the tourist office. The stops included the Royal Selangor pewter company as well the Batik factory. Of course, they are hoping you pick up some souvenirs while you are there.

Be aware that the price of pewter can vary quite a bit. A similar piece can range in price from $5 to $50 depending on the quality. Royal Selangor price is on the upside.

The last stop in KL was at a temple built into a cave. The stairs up to the entrance of the cave was a killer especially in the heat. Oh yeah, and monkeys everywhere.

My original plan was to go to Singapore after KL but after talking to some folks, I decided to try another city in Malyasia instead. So, I went to Penang for a couple of days.
