Although I was in Hong Kong between excursions to other countries, I
think I saw most of the sites during the first week I was there.
Lets
start from Sharon and Jerome's place. This is the view of Kowloon from
their place on a not so rainy day (which turned out to be rare).
|
Followed
by a feast of Peking duck, here are some night scenic pictures of Hong Kong
island and Kowloon bay front. |
|
 One
of the boat ride excursions we took was to a small fishing island/village
called Cheung Chau. I was very surprised at all the "junk" boats
in the harbor. |
And
after a brief hike (in which we were attacked by huge mosquitos but also
saw some equally huge but beautiful butterflies), we arrived at one of the
beach areas. |
|
|
 |
Topped
off the evening on the island with a great dinner by the water. |
| Now, a view of Hong Kong from top of the peak. |
| |
 |
 |
 Next
stop, the big Buddha. A short ferry and a bus ride away, was the outdoor
statue of Buddha at the Lantau Island Monastery. I guess I was fortunate
to get there when I did since a big fog rolled in soon after covering the
entire statue. The stairs up to the top is a killer. |
 |
|
Leaping
ahead a few weeks after visits to several other countries, we went to
Stanley park for their annual Dragon Boat Race. Apparently a big thing
in Hong Kong.

|
Of
course, a trip to Asia must include a panda siting. In this case, at the
Ocean Park. |
| Finally, a view of Hong Kong island from Kowloon. |
| |
 |
| To say that I had fun in Hong Kong is an understatement. I'm
sure large part of reason is due to the great hospitality of Sharon and
Jerome. However, I also liked the city a lot. If I hadn't recently moved
to California, I would certainly consider living in Hong Kong for a while.
Who knows, may be in the future. |
